Fans join forces in tribute to player

The death of a former Hereford United striker, aged just 31, brought two sets of rival fans together on Saturday.

Following a minute’s applause in tribute to Adam Stansfield  at the Division 2 home game against Gillingham, visiting fans from Exeter City, where he subsequently played, joined in with the home fans singing “There is only one Adam Stansfield.”

Exeter’s own game on Saturday had called off in a tribute to the striker, known as Stanno, who died after a short battle against bowel cancer.

He scored 36 goals  for Hereford United and featured in the team which returned to the Football League in 2006.

As well as Exeter, the striker had also played for Yeovil Town.
