Utd’s new owners to build on Turner’s foundation

Hereford United’s new owners say they want supporters to be “proud” of their club.

Chairman David Keyte and vice chairman Tim Russon were announced as the replacements for the outgoing Graham Turner and Joan Fennessy last week.

Mr Russon, a former sports presenter with ITV Central, said that their partnership is based on helping the Bulls thrive.

He said: “We just found we had roughly the same idea which was to make Hereford a happy and healthy football club. We want the fans to come and enjoy football, we want success and we want the people of Hereford to be proud of their football team.

“We want to try and get Edgar Street alive again, probably by using it for things other than football. We just want to try and bang the drum and raise the profile of the team and put a bit of spark back into it.”

Mr Russon also paid tribute to the efforts of his predecessors, Graham Turner and Joan Fennessy.

“I think Graham has done a fantastic job,” he said. “But he has been busy putting the foundations down and now it’s our chance to try and build upwards.”

Mr Turner, who departs Edgar Street after 15 years with the club, said the new owners were the right choice.

“When we decided to sell our shares we were hoping that somebody would come in and take on the running of the club with the same ethics that we had and the same business practice,” he said.

“We are delighted with the two that are going to come in and take over. I’m sure that they are going to be a big asset to this football club.”
