Group becoming Calendar Girls - and Boys

Tudorville Residents Association in Ross-on-Wye is to produce its own Calendar Girls-style calendar to raise money for the planned new community centre.

But unlike the famous Women’s Institute version, it will feature pictures of unclothed men and women, with props of their trade used to preserve their modesty.

Local photographer, Philip Price, is donating his services free of charge as it is for a good cause.

However, he said, he will wait for warmer weather before starting to take pictures of volunteers for the 2011 calendar, featuring one for each month of the year.

The calendar is one of a series of projects to help pay for  the transformation of the present Tudorville Youth Centre into a community centre available for use by all ages and groups.

A special fundraising committee has already established very successful bingo sessions, being held on a regular basis at the centre.

Further money will be raised by Ian Gray, who runs the Tudorville boxing club. He is planning to run the Edinburgh Marathon.

In addition, Ross Town Council approved a grant of £500 to help finance improved storage facilities at the centre for the boxing club.

Meanwhile, good progress is being made with productive dialogue between the management committee and Herefordshire Council, who are the existing owners of the centre.

One option being considered is for the ownership of the building to be transferred to a charitable company formed by the Tudorville Residents Association.

Council officers will be working with the management committee to ensure that a robust business plan and governance arrangements are in place to take the project forward, also to submit funding applications for capital improvements to the building.
