Stolen notices scupper festival

A music festival due to take place in Hereford next month has been cancelled after the licence application was withdrawn by Herefordshire Council.

The three-day music event, scheduled to take place at Sutton St Nicolas, had recently announced that headline act The Stranglers were confirmed to play alongside The Wurzles over the weekend of June 18-20.

But last Friday, the organisers were contacted by the licensing department at Herefordshire Council and told that their licence application had been withdrawn due to a breach of the terms and conditions.

Festival spokesperson Steve Symonds said: “I was informed that several of the public planning notices that were displayed around the area had been removed, which resulted in the application being void.

“The notices have to be displayed for 28 days to enable interested parties to submit a complaint. If the notices are removed, they have to be replaced immediately otherwise the applicant is in breach of the application.

The deliberate removal of the notices now means a second application has to be submitted.”

Organisers now hope to reschedule the event to August 21, depending on the licence being granted.
