Strenuous moves to help Leominster town crier and firefighter Dave Taylor pay for a cancer drug to prolong his life show no signs of slowing down.
Tickets for the major Robbie Williams’ tribute night fundraiser at Luctonians’ Sports Club in Kingsland, A Taste of Robbie, next Friday April 16, have now sold out, while equally strong support is anticipated for the Big Event Summer Ball Cabaret night also at Luctonians on Saturday July 3 in support of this popular local figure.
Dave has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and is now paying more than £2,000 every few weeks for Avastin, a drug he believes will prolong his life.
Since his plight was revealed in the Journal in February, scores of groups, clubs and individuals have rallied to the aid of Dave, a hardworking charity fund-raiser who played a major role in helping theNorth Herefordshire Charles Renton appeal raise more than £167,000 for the new unit at Hereford County Hospital.
This Sunday, April 11, Headlines hairdressers in Leominster’s Rainbow Street will be open from 10am - 4pm where customers will be able to have their hair done, enjoy coffee and cakes or face painting for children and there will be a prize draw. All proceeds will go to Dave Taylor.
On Sunday, April 25 Leominster Fire Station will have an open day from 12 noon until 4pm in support of the appeal.
A fire engine will be pulled around the streets starting at noon from beside Barclays Bank at the top of Broad Street. There will be jumble and bric a brac stalls, cake stall, bottle stall, refreshments and a chance for youngster to look at the fire engines. During the open day, hairdresser Jenna Wood will complete 10k sponsored run.
Tickets at £25 for the Big Event Summer Ball Cabaret are now available. The evening, starting at 7.30pm will include a live band, magician Mark Townsend, hip hop/street dancers, Rob Parker’s All Star Disco, a live auction, pig roast and headline act, the Blues Brothers.
