Hereford United midfielder James McQuilkin has hailed the return Graham Turner into the manager’s hotseat, following last week’s dismissal of John Trewick.
The 21-year-old Northern Irishman says Turner’s experience will help the club but admits Trewick’s departure has been difficult for the players.
He told Skysports: “It’s obviously disappointing when a manager gets sacked and it affects everybody in different ways. But everybody is trying to stay upbeat and it’s a new chance for some of the players. It’s a fresh start and, basically, we will have to see how it goes.
“It’s part of football, the manager knew that. It’s part of the game and you have to just get your head up and get on with it and do your best for the club.”
Turner has returned to the manager’s role until a successor to Trewick can be found, but for McQuilkin his experience will be of a benefit to the squad.
He added: “He knows the game really well and has got a lot of experience.
“He knows a lot about football, so the lads are fully behind him. We will be doing our best for him.
“He’s been around the club for many years now so he knows the club inside out. He’s a very experienced bloke and I’m sure he will manage to do well for us.
“It’s a fresh start for everybody and we have all got the determination and ability to keep moving and progressing.”
Turner has told the Bulls supporters the intention is to recruit a new manager as soon as possible and a number of names have been touted.
The club have only confirmed an application from former Aston Villa captain Shaun Teale although a number of others are reportedly interested.
Turner did not have the happiest of returns to the dugout; he had to watch his side crash to a hapless 3-1 defeat at the hands of Lincoln on Friday.
First half strikes from the Imps’ Davide Somma and Matthew Saunders ensured Chris Sutton’s side’s held an early lead before Marc Pugh pulled one back.
But with 20 minutes left Saunders doubled his tally to gift the home side a 3-1 victory and condemn Hereford to their sixth straight league defeat.
The Bulls will have a perfect opportunity to get their league form back on track though when Bradford visit Edgar Street on Saturday.
