A north Herefordshire hairdresser matched all six Lotto numbers on Saturday for a share of the jackpot, scooping £1,182,714.Susan Herdman, aged 41, runs her own hairdressers at Eardisley, near Leominster, and lives in Kington. She has one son, Jack, aged 17.
She is believed to be the first £1,000,000 plus winner in the county.
Susan found out she had won the life-changing sum on Saturday night shortly after the live draw on TV.
She said: “The draw was live on TV, but I had gone into the kitchen to get some food so pressed pause on the programme. When I came back in, all my numbers were frozen there on the screen.”
Susan had said on Facebook that she thought 2010 would be the year for her to win the lottery. She also had a tarot card reading with a friend last November, where her cards revealed wealth and good fortune.
She added: “I felt shocked for a moment, but it all sunk in quite quickly as I had always believed I would win.
“I’m not planning on going wild with the money and wasting it. I’m going to pay off my mortgage and enjoy all the freedom that brings, but I won’t be giving up work as I enjoy it too much and a lot of my clients have been coming to me for years.
“Winning the lottery and paying off the mortgage means I can take some time off and have a holiday without worrying about money. I might work one day less a week so I’ve got more time to spend on my hobbies. I love to be busy.”
Susan is a keen car enthusiast and auto-cross racer. She plans to spend some of her winnings on an auto-cross car, as well as buying an Audi or BMW. Her son Jake has asked for a quad bike.
“I think I will treat myself to a trip to New York though, as I’ve always wanted to go, and maybe a visit to the West End in London as I’m a big fan of musicals. A skiing holiday to Canada would also be nice, as I like to be active all the time.
“Other than that, I will help out my mum, dad and my sisters. It’ll be nice to be able to give some away to family.”
Susan bought her ticket at the Co-op on Crabtree Road, Kington. The winning numbers on Saturday 16th January were 4, 7,10, 14, 27, 42 and 25.
