Big boys await Bulls in FA Cup

IT’S THAT time of the season again, when the second  round of the FA Cup glory trail beckons and supporters and managers alike dream wistfully of an away draw at Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge or even, at a pinch, Anfield.

But first, in the case of Hereford United, they must overcome visitors Colchester.

The Coca-Cola Division 1 side are currently in fourth spot in the table, and take on the Bulls at Edgar Street this Saturday, November 28 (3pm).

As Bulls manager John Trewick has commented, Colchester were in the Championship not that long ago, but they had a managerial change at the top of the season which could unsettle their aspirations for a win this weekend.

Trewick ended by saying: “But this is definitely a game that we could win.”

He added: “Colchester are doing quite well at the moment and it is a real challenge for us”.

If Hereford end up with the same result as they did last Saturday, by the odd goal from five away to Burton in the League, it will be a real sickener, after a game that saw former Bulls skipper Tony James line up for Burton against his old side.

After a 0-0 first half – a draw scoreline the Bulls seem able to provide on a regular basis – Burton grabbed the lead through Shaun Harrad before a perfect cross from Gavin McCallum evaded the home keeper for Leon Constantine to head into an empty net.

Burton scored from a hotly-disputed penalty before Constantine headed his second goal to make it 2-2, but a defensive error let in Burton’s Aaron Webster for a close-range winner.

The Bulls were playing what passes for a local derby last night when they entertained Shrewsbury – but for the rest of the week all eyes will be on that Cup, and a visit to Sir Alec in Manchester.
