Villagers in a tiny North Herefordshire community are on the lookout for a brave Second World War veteran who was involved in the D-Day landings back in 1944.
The church of St John of Jerusalem at Ford is to host a traditional two-day flower festival which starts on the anniversary of D-Day, June 6.
As part of the celebrations there will be a special commemoration of the epic Normandy landings.
And festival organisers are keen to track down a D-Day veteran in order to help the villagers pay tribute to all those who took part in what was to be the largest amphibious invasion of all time when more than 130,000 troops landed on French beaches.
“It’s exactly 65 years since D-Day and we’re looking for a veteran,” explains churchwarden Olwen Helme.
“An appeal is being made from the village through the Royal British Legion.
“We’d really like to find a veteran from the old Herefordshire regiment,” she continues. “These heroes really deserve a mention.”
