Lorry raiders’ drinks bill

Thieves stole eight pallets of Lucozade sports drink, valued at £11,500, from the back of a lorry while the driver slept in his cab.

The theft happened on the eastbound carriageway of the A40 trunk road at Whitchurch between 10.30pm on May 5 and 5.30am on May 6.

It is the fourth offence of this kind on the road in the past year, and follows similar incidents involving the theft of cheese, champagne and Nestle food stuffs.

On this occasion the Lucozade was taken through a 10-foot hole cut by the offenders in the curtain at the back of the lorry as it was parked up overnight. They made off with eight pallets as the driver slept.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was travelling on the A40 who may have seen any suspicious activity at the side of the road in the Whitchurch area.

Call PC Lee Hull at Ross Police Station on 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers free on 0800 555111.
