It may have been a Kenyan crossing the finish line first in Sunday’s London Marathon, but Steve Macdonald was one of those celebrating a personal triumph.
Steve, son of Janet Macdonald, chief officer of Ross-on-Wye and District Age Concern, slashed 45 minutes off his 2007 London Marathon time giving him just as much satisfaction as that of the Olympic champion.
Steve was one of the 35,000 people who finished the famous street race this year and he did so in four hours and 17 minutes – destroying the five-hour timing of his last outing.
Steve had to guarantee raising £1,500 to compete in the race, some of which will go to Ross Age Concern and so benefit those in the region.
Janet said she was ‘proud’ of his achievement and ‘grateful’ for the support given to him.
