A community organisation is waving goodbye to a popular employee, as it campaigns to retain one of the projects she helped build up.
Robyn Fletcher joined Ross-on-Wye based EnviroAbility in 2007, initially on a work experience placement and then as an apprentice. She has been instrumental in building the Green Nappies scheme, which ironically is now under threat following Worcestershire Council’s withdrawal of sponsorship. Herefordshire Council is currently considering whether it will continue to support the scheme.
EnviroAbility’s Dennis Humble said: “The aim of the project was to encourage families to consider using cotton nappies for their babies. Robyn’s contribution made a difference and indeed the Counties of Hereford and Worcester offered us a contract to administer a cash-back scheme. As this allowed us some income, EnviroAbility offered Robyn a post under the Young Apprentice scheme.”
Robyn, who lives in Whitchurch, went on to complete Level 2 and 3 NVQs in business administration and received a £250 bursary from Ross Rotary Club to allow her to progress her studying.
She has now accepted a new position with NFU Mutual Insurance in Ross and says the experience she gained at EnviroAbility has given her an ‘excellent basis’ for her career.
The team at EnviroAbility must now finding a replacement and try to maintain the Green Nappies scheme.
Dennis said: “Unless we can recruit a volunteer to be involved its continuation could be in doubt.” Call 01989 760919 for details.
