Leominster’s singular artist Norrie Davies has already caused great interest with her affectionate view of local shopfronts, and now she’s compiled a calendar so that townspeople can contemplate the local scene throughout the year.
Known for her distinctive tearooms, Norrie Davies, who launched her painting career only a couple of years ago, has already produced a unique view of the town’s shopfronts, and in some cases the familiar proprietors and even their customers.
But the town and its people seen through the eyes of the charismatic Norrie, whose Granary cafe is a popular haunt for foodies and music aficionados, is now available in calendar form.
Twelve shopfronts are featured, as well as the front cover picture of antique dealer George Court outside his Leominster business.
From all accounts the calendars are selling fast. Norrie came to Leominster in 1978 and for a time she rented the Verandah tea-rooms in Broad Street, before moving to the Granary where she often hosts musical evenings. Norrie has played the accordion in community bands Bandemonium and Bandamania.
Unlike most artists, she is not keen to sell her work, though painting an exact copy is not a problem, and postcard reproductions are available.
lThe calendars are available from the Granary tearooms at £7.50 each.
