The waiting will soon be over for 12 Ross-on-Wye children who have been shortlisted to switch on the town’s Christmas lights this Saturday.
The winner will be announced during the lead up to the illuminating event between 4.30pm to 5pm, when residents gather outside the Market House for the festive fun to start.
After meeting the Mayor, Councillor John Davies, the youngsters will find out which one of them will have the honour of switching on the lights this year.
They bid for the job by writing to the town council to explain why they wanted to be the one chosen to flick the switch.
After the ‘lighting up’ there will be a procession of children from the Market House to St Mary’s Church to see the Christmas trees at night at the Christmas Tree Festival, where there will be refreshments, music and fun planned for the evening.
The festival will then be open daily from 11am until Thursday, December 4. Contact the Friends of St Marys Church for more information on 01989 562628.
