Tourist trail will lead ‘em home

By George he’s done it! Now, thanks to the efforts of Leominster antiques’ man George Court, visitors from across a wide region will get to hear more about the town and its attractions.

This week Leominster Town Council agreed to add its own bit of polish to a proposed Leominster and Hereford tourism leaflet which has been put together by Mr Court, on behalf of the Antique Dealers and Restorers’ Association & Friends.

As well as winning support and sponsorship from local businesses, the illustrated leaflet is to receive a £400 grant from the town council, it was announced on Monday night.

The mayor, Councillor Peter McCaull pointed out that the leaflet promoted tourism in Leominster and said: “It’s a good quality production, a folding leaflet with a very good street map, with another map showing just where we are in the country.”

Mr Court, who has run his antiques business in Bridge Street for 25 years, has been responsible for earlier leaflets promoting Leominster as one of  the most important antiques’ centres in the region.

He has cast his net wide in his drive to bring tourism to the town and he promises that the leaflets will be distributed at antique fairs over a wide region.

A street map recommends the ‘Leominster Antiques’ Trail’ and the town’s charity shops are also listed. He praises the support of local firms, in particular from estate agent Jonathan Wright, Best Wishes card shop, Jalalabad restaurant and B&B businesses, Copper Hall and Ryelands.

Mr Court is also pleased to report support from National Trust properties in the area, Croft Castle and Berrington Hall.

The leaflet hails Leominster’s “large range of shops, galleries and markets” and lists businesses in the town.

Though some town councillors expressed concern that the leaflet promoted businesses over the Welsh border, there were assurances that these had made important financial contributions to the publication.
