Police at Leominster have responded to reports of a spate of anti-social behaviour and damage at Leominster Infants School.
Inspector Pete Wilson, police commander for North Herefordshire, said: “We are aware of problems with local youths who congregate in the grounds of Leominster Infants School in the evenings and at weekends.”
He continued: “The problem is exacerbated by the fact that the school grounds are not fenced off to prevent access outside school hours.
“There may also be an element of displacement, caused by successful police activities to reduce anti-social behaviour in other areas of the town.
“To combat this, we have already stepped up police patrols to the school premises at those times where it is known that youths congregate.
“Two other areas in the town, similarly affected, are also being targeted.”
He continued: “We would urge all residents around the school to contact us when youths are on site out of school times and ask those youngsters who do gather there not to do so.”
Under the Education Act 1996, it is illegal to be on educational premises without lawful authority, and to cause a nuisance or disturbance.
“Anyone found in such circumstances will be dealt with accordingly,” said the inspector.
lAnyone with information on the damage caused at Leominster Infants School should contact PC Tracy Lewis at Leominster Police Station on 0300 333 3000 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
