Polish workers are attacked by gang

Three Polish workers have been attacked by a large group of youths in Hereford.

Police are appealing for witnesses after three Polish friends, two men and a woman, were set upon by a group of 10 to 12 young men.

The Poles were sitting by the Victoria footbridge at Bishop’s Meadows between 10pm and midnight on Saturday when they were approached by the youths.

Two of the youths struck up a brief conversation about football with one of the Polish men.

Then, without warning, the Pole was struck in the face, dragged to the ground and kicked about the head and back.

Others from the group joined in. The other Polish man attempted to phone the police, but his mobile was removed and broken.

The group then ran off on hearing the sound of sirens. The assaulted Polish man received two black eyes, bruising to his back and shoulders and a suspected broken nose.

Police describe the first assailant as a white male, 19 years old, 5ft 8in tall, and of skinny build. He was wearing a red T-shirt.

The second was a white male in his early twenties, 6ft 2in or more tall, of a muscular build, with black hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

The rest of the group were young white males, except one, who was black.

Police are anxious to speak to any witnesses who saw the group running away from the scene or who may know the identity of some or all of them.

They should contact PC Rebecca Colcombe at Hereford Police Station on 08457 444888 or the  Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
