A Primary school is using the popularity of internet shopping to help raise extra funds for its Parent and Teacher Association, by earning commission from parents’ online expenditure at one gateway site.
Bridstow Primary School, Ross-on-Wye, has signed up to a website called PTA Planet and will receive money generated from commission paid when people buy goods from the site.
PTA Planet collects commission payments from the online retailers it represents when parents buy from them and then shares the money out between its member schools. The site focuses specifically on children’s products and includes clothing, stationary and art, books, toys and games, DVDs, video games, school uniforms, bed linen, bikes, holidays and theme park tickets.
Julian Hanford, co-founder of the scheme said: “It doesn’t cost parents any more than usual and they don’t have to sign up or enter any special codes – they just shop as normal.
“The only difference is that by clicking through the PTA Planet site, their school and their children benefit. It’s a no-brainer, really.
“We all buy online these days. Current figures confirm that we spent £4.5 billion online in May this year. That’s £75 for every person in the UK, in one month.”
The scheme will also provide Bridstow Primary with regular pre-printed newsletters and posters to be distributed to parents to inform them about the site.
