A man has been jailed for three years after a series of sexual activities with a teenage girl.
Worcester Crown Court heard how Malcolm Tweeddale, aged 45, tried to make the girl touch his genitals and showed her pornographic images as well as touching her private parts on several occasions.
Tweeddale, of Walford, Ross-on-Wye, had denied four counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and causing a child to watch a sexual act. He was found guilty after a trial last month.
Lee Marklew, prosecuting, said the events had taken place between autumn 2005 and June 2006 on the girl who was below 16 at the time.
The offending only came to light when the girl told a counsellor at her school and she was advised to see police. He said that on one occasion the girl was shown a graphic sexual act on a computer.
Mr Marlew added that Tweeddale had a long history of offending for which he had at times served prison sentences, but this was the first occasion he had been convicted for sexual offences.
Neil Treharne representing Tweeddale said his client’s offending was rooted in a problem with alcohol. He said: “He has voluntarily enlisted the help of self help groups to help him overcome these problems”.
In sentencing Judge Daniel Pearce-Higgins said: “I’m sure he was grooming her for greater sexual activity as she matured”.
Tweeddale will also have to sign on the sex offenders register on his release.
