A Herefordshire family has been hit with a second fatality on the same road in less than a year.
One of two motorcyclists killed on the A49 south of Hereford last weekend was the uncle of a man who died in a car crash on the same road, but north of the city, just eight months ago.
Stephen Waring, 39, of Hereford was killed, along with his friend 40-year-old Mark Price from Wormelow, when the bike they were both riding was in collision with a Toyota Corolla at 5.10pm at the Callow this Saturday.
Mr Waring’s nephew, 20-year-old Luke Godsall, died in November 2007 when the car he was travelling in overturned on the A49 at Wellington, to the north of Hereford.
The driver, 21-year-old Andrew Watkins, was jailed for five years last month after admitting causing Mr Godsall’s death by dangerous driving.
The driver and passenger of the Toyota Corolla were treated at Hereford County Hospital after Saturday’s accident.
The elderly male driver has serious, but non-life threatening, injuries and the female passenger was treated for minor injuries.
Police are anxious to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or, more particularly, who may have seen the motorcyclists or the silver Toyota Corolla driving along the A49 immediately prior to the incident.
Anyone with information should contact PC Simon Prater of the Roads Policing Team at Hereford Police Station on 08457 444888.
