Public opinion is being sought for a new centre for Ross-on-Wye which will include the refurbishment and extension of Ross Library.
The refurbishment of the library will make way for the relocation of the Info in Herefordshire service from its current home in Swan House, Edde Cross Street, into the library building in Cantelupe Road, freeing up the lease in Swan House.
Info in Herefordshire has information on a wide range of issues such as benefits claims, planning, disabled parking and council housing enquiries.
Kate Murray of the Council’s Libraries and Heritage department told the Journal: “Info in Herefordshire is a one-stop shop for all council services.
“We don’t want either service to suffer and we want to provide an improved service all round.”
To kick-start the consultation process, the library held a coffee morning which attracted about 25 people.
This was followed by a meeting last Monday when about 14 people turned up. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, July 22 at the Library at 7pm when anyone interested is encouraged to attend.
We are forming a group which will include residents, and councillors. We hope to work with them to come up with some fundraising options,” Kate added.
There are also plans for questionnaires to be distributed in Somerfield and Morrrisons supermarkets in the town.
