Online sites ‘need care’

Protecting youngsters and family from online dangers took centre stage at John Kyrle High School last week when West Mercia Constabulary launched its internet safety fortnight.

Officers from the public protection unit and the local policing team held an internet safety event for parents at the school in Ross-on-Wye on Thursday evening.

Of particular focus was the need for people to “exercise caution” when using online social networking sites. Detective Superintendent Martin Lakeman of West Mercia Constabulary said: “People should be wary of putting too many personal details on the internet.”

The objective of the internet safety fortnight is to help answer questions people have about internet safety and to raise awareness of the steps that can be taken to protect ourselves and our children.
