Man is attacked beside busy road

A 50 year-old man was left with bruises to his arms, leg and back after being pulled to the ground, then punched and kicked in broad daylight as he walked near a Hereford road layby.

The incident took place at about 4.20pm on Tuesday, June 17, in the layby near to the Treacle Mine pub, on the busy A49, just to the south of the New Bridge, when what is described as a dark blue car – no other details are known – pulled in.

Two unidentified white men got out of the vehicle and one, who was wearing a thin black bomber jacket and blue jeans, approached the victim.

He was pulled to the ground and punched and kicked, before the two men then got back into the car and drove off.

“At that time of day there would have been a large amount of busy traffic passing on the A49, yet no one came to the aid of the victim.

We believe that many motorists may well have seen the assault or the vehicle parked in the layby.

“We are keen to speak with anyone who can shed further light on the incident,” said a police spokesman.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt Graham Wood at Hereford Police Station on 08457 444888 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
