Banners are flying high

They’re big, they’re beautiful and they’re here!

The much talked-about medieval banners, dreamt up by a group of women who wanted to make a difference, have gone up this week, creating a colourful trail through town and adding a new dimension to this year’s Leominster in Bloom displays.

In the past two years, Leominster has twice achieved gold in The Heart of England in Bloom awards and, this summer, the streets will also be a-glow with 120 handmade banners sponsored by local shops, groups and businesses.

As word spread through the town, sponsors have clamoured for their own individually-designed specimens.

Made from different coloured fabrics, the banners reflect the town’s history while also making reference to each particular sponsor.

At the heart of the enterprise has been Wendy Rulton, and medieval historian and artist Fay Butler who has acted as chief designer and administrator. A third member of the group, Romey Worthington, proprietor of the town’s Best Wishes shop in Leominster says: “On behalf of Leominster in Bloom, we want to thank everyone in the town for their willingness to take part in this wonderful community project.”
