Petition has 7,169 signatures

The county’s campaign to ‘Save Our Post Offices’ had yesterday, Tuesday, collected 7,169 signatures – an astonishing one in every 10 Herefordshire households – as organisers aimed to reach 10,000 before delivering the petition to No 10 Downing Street next month.

Campaign co-ordinator and Hereford Conservative candidate Jesse Norman said: “It’s fantastic to be able to announce over 7,000 signatures to date. This really underlines how angry local people are about this issue.

“The government’s post office closures are known to target the elderly, the disabled and other vulnerable members of our society. We estimate as many as 25 post offices could be at risk in Herefordshire, both in urban areas and in our villages.

“When we launched the campaign a year ago I said we would take the petition all the way to No 10 Downing Street.  The date has now been set for July 17, and tickets are  £10 each way, including lunch. All are invited to join us for what should be a really good day.

Anyone wanting to help present the petition, or simply to add their names, can contact Jesse by email on jesse4hereford@gmail.com, or by post at home at 49 Broomy Hill, Hereford HR4 0LJ.
