Businessman to head haulage Assoc.

A Ledbury  businessman has been named as the new chairman of the Road Haulage Association.

Managing Director of ABE Hauliers, Andy Boyle, takes over the position from Willie Oliver, boss of Londonderry-based Oliver Transport Services.

He says he is “honoured” to take the position despite taking over at a particularly turbulent time for the industry with many hauliers considering action in protest at the rising cost of fuel.

“The RHA have been on the case with fuel every day, every year since 1999,” says Andy. 

“It has always stood for peaceful protest, we’re not going to be associated with rowdyism.”

But he says he will be lobbying hard for a reduction in the cost of fuel duty and will be able to “bridge the gap” between small and large haulage firms.

“As a country we pay far too much fuel duty. It’s not a great result if you are in business at the moment to keep going back to your customer with your hand out. 

“But If you do not pass it on, you are out of business – it’s as simple as that.”

The managing director at Bulmer Logistics Jonathon Bulmer, has been appointed senior vice-chairman  while Tony Jones, managing director at Courtenham Warehousing and Distribution takes over as
