A green-fingered couple in Kings Caple, near Hoarwithy, are giving local sculptors the opportunity to showcase their work and help raise money for charity as part of the National Garden Scheme.
Sue and Oliver Sharp have been busy preparing the Shieldbrook Sculpture Garden so that it can be opened to the public on the weekend of June 21 and 22 for an entrance fee of £4. The money raised will be donated to the NGS Gardens for Charity Scheme.
The garden will then be open every weekend after until the end of September for the same entrance fee.
In its fifth year of opening the garden is well established and lush thanks to the rain. It is littered with private spaces, three ponds and a stream, ideal for exhibiting sculpture. Stone, wood, alabaster, metal and glass sculptures are all on display.
Among the local sculptors exhibiting are Andy Dodwell, Peter King, David England, Sue Locke, Helen Jones, Sue Morrison and Karlin Rushbrooke.
Sue said: “We welcome groups to the garden but it is advisable to make a booking. It is a child friendly garden and there is no entrance fee for children. We also welcome wheelchairs but we do have some gravel and lawns to negotiate.”
There will be a private view on Monday, June 16, from 2pm until 6pm.
