Darcie wears the crown

Carnival Princess Darcie Victor-Trott, 9, is taking stardom firmly in her stride as she prepares for the parade at this year’s Ross-on-Wye event on Saturday, August 2.

Darcie, along with her two attendants, Adele Brooke and Tabitha Davies, will be on board the Carnival Princess float with the rest of the dazzling little ladies who took part in the pageant-style competition at the Larrupez Centre.

Nearly 20 hopefuls were introduced by Colin Gray of Ross Carnival Committee before being asked questions about hobbies and interests by judges Lynne Tomlinson, Councillor Gordon Lucas and Mrs Margaret Lucas.

Darcie, who likes to dress up, wore her sparkly red bridesmaid’s gown she had received for the weddng of her aunt and uncle. She was presented with the carnival sash, a tiara and a suitably styled cape – which is an incredible 74 years old – after listing her interests as cooking, ballet, and, of course, world peace.

The carnival, re-formed in 1977, takes place every year on the first Saturday in August with a procession through the town followed by fun activities at Riverside.

The procession begins at 12 noon leaving from Ashburton Industrial Estate. To enter, contact the carnival hotline after 5pm on 07896 562403 for an entry form.
